New Feature: Manual Placement of Existing Trees in Revit

Users are able to automate the placement of existing trees in Revit directly from source survey information in CS ArtisanRV. This workflow dynamically locates existing tree instances if northing and easting information is included in the survey as descibed in a previous article.

Professionals traditionally receive existing tree survey information as a spreadsheet and discrete plan view (often in DWG or DXF format). It is expected that increasingly survey information will include geo-referenced data if requested to do so by professionals needing to automatically create accurate fully informed 3D model content in BIM workflows. In the meantime, there is a need to be able to manually place existing tree survey content from discrete spreadsheet and DXF/DWG formats.

The process for manually placing existing tree components in CS ArtisanRV is as follows…

Add Existing Tree ‘Placeholders’ using customisable Reference Prefix.

Manual Placement 1 BIM for Landscape

Add Properties as required from source survey information… individually or by multiple selection…

Manual Placement 2 BIM for Landscape

Place Trees individually, by selection or en-masse after determining Placement Options for Existing Tree family components…

Manual Placement 3 BIM for Landscape

Note that if placing multiple /all existing tree instances (i.e. multiple/all existing trees have been selected prior to picking Place Selected Trees), users are propmted to select placement points for each individual tree in turn…
